What Vegetables are Grown at Cabalo's Orchard?
ALL OF THE VEGETABLES GROWN AT CABALO'S ORCHARD ARE GROWN USING ORGANIC PRACTICES. THAT MEANS THAT WE USE ONLY ORGANIC CERTIFIED PEST CONTROL, FERTILIZATION AND WEED CONTROL PRODUCTS. WE MADE A CHOICE TO NOT CERTIFY OUR PRODUCTS AS ORGANIC. FRUIT IS OUR PRIMARY CROP SO OUR VEGTABLE SELECTION IS LIMITED BUT WE CONTRACT WITH SEVERAL OF OUR NEIGHBOR FARMERS TO BRINGYOU A BETTER SELECTION. OUR PUMPKIN PATCH, AND PICKLING CUCUMBERS. ARE THE ONLY VEGETABLE CROPS THAT ARE AVAILABLE FOR U-PICK.

Asparagus is available in the early Spring. We will have Purple and Green Asparagus from our opening date until early June. This is brought in from Washngton State

Beets are grown by one of my neighbor farmers and are usually available after the end of June. It is a good idea to call ahead so that we can have them picked especially for you.

Bittermelon is a rare asian vegetable used in many soups and stews. It has a slight bitter flavor that is prized in asian dishes. Will be available later in the summer

Cucumbers wil start producing about mid to late July. We have regular Green Slicing, Lemon and Striped Armenian types available..

Pickling Cucumbers are available for 5 weeks prior to Labor Day. Our pickling cucumbers are sized from baby gherkins, small dills, bread and butter to extra large. We pick every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Special Orders are recommended. We also offer U-Pick on Saturday mornings in August

Bouquet Dill is available during August to go along with Pickling Season. We get our Dill From a neighboring farm.

Miniature Decorative Gourds are available during October. Use them for decorating this fall. There will be a big box full at the farm stand or you can scour the pumpkin patch to find the ones that I missed.

Eggplant will be available about August. We have a few varieties. Classic, Japanese and Ichiban.

Green Beans are availabe starting in August thruogh late September. We grow a type called Jade. It is long strait and stringless. These are grown by one of my neighboring farmers..

Garlic is available from July until it is sold out. Our Garlic comes from Rice Family Farms and is Certified Organic. Grace has a magical touch and it is really tasty.

Lettuce Blend is from another of my neighboring farms. It is a blend of 4 types of lettuce that they grow Hydroponically. This is available all season long.

Micro Greens are like sprouts that have grown big enough to have leaf starts. They are super nutritious and add a great crunch and flavor to salads, soups and even your burger. These are also grown by our neighboring lettuce farm.

Loofa (or Luffa or Loffa), however you choose to spell it is a sponge made from a gourd. They are edible if picked small enough but you would have to ask ne to pick it for you. I usually let them grow as big as I can then let them dry and clean them for sale.

Okra is an edible flower seed pod that originated in a much warmer climate than Idaho. I struggle to get it to grow but I do have some success. The little I get is usually sold very quickly.

Indian Corn is a variety of corn usually grown for decorating. Available in October, it has beautiful color kernals and no two are the same. This corn is edible as a type of corn meal but it would not be the yellow color that you are used to.

Sweet Peppers are available from mid August until the end of our season.. We have 5 different colors of Bell Pepper, Sweet Banana Peppers, Pimentp Peppers and even a zero heat Jalapeno named Felicity.

Hot Peppers are available from Mid August thru the end of our season. We have Jalapeno, Serrano, Cayenne, Ancho/Poblano, Red Peter, Red Manzano, Lemon Drop, Mole, Anaheim, Serrano and Habenaro Peppers.

Jack-O-Lantern Pumpkins are available only during October. Most of them are still in the Field where you can search out the perfect one for you from the over 12 varieties that we planted out there.

Fancy Pie Pumpkins are only available in October and are planted on one side of the Pumpkin Patch. These 12 varieties of specialty Pumpkins are not only Beautiful to look at but they make delicious pumpkin, pie, bread, and pancakes.

Potatoes come in Red, Purple and Yukon Gold. All of our potatoes are grown by neighboring farms. If you want large quantities to put up for winter let me know and we will arrange it.

Bayou Bell Sweet Potatoes are something new we have been doing for the last two years. Last year we sold out in one afternoon so this year I planted lots more. These are Dark orange interior and purpelish red skins. Super Yummy!!!

Sunflower Heads are available from Late September until the end of our season. Some people roast the seeds and others feed them to critters

Summer Squash will be one of our earlier crops coming on by late June or early July. We grow Green Zucchini, Yellow Zucchini, Yellow Crookneck and patty pan Squash

Tomaatoes will start ripening in Late August and Earky September. We grow several varieties of Slicing and Roma type tomatoes. Between what I grow and Rice Family Farms I can usually fill all your canning needs. If you call ahead I will be sure to set them aside for you.

Tomatillos are those little green husk tomatoes with the lime like flavor that is needed to complete the green chili and salsa recipes. When they start ripening in August there are lots to choose from.

Sweet Corn will start to ger ripe in Mid July. and go into Early September if the weather is right. My Sweet Corn comes from one of my neighboring farms, too. Let me know if you want a bunch to can or freeze and we will have it picked fresh for you.

Winter Squash is named this because it does not develope its sweet flavor until it is frosted and then it will hold in storage for most of the winter without going bad. We have Acorn, Delacata, Hubbard, Kubocha, Buttercup, Butternut, Banana, Carnival and Spaghetti Squashes.

Fall Decoratives. In addition to the Indian Corn and Miniture Gourds listed earlier we also have Broom Corn, Corn Stalk Bundles and Mini Hay Bails to help you decorate for the holidays
